In the morning, our private bilingual guide will meet you at the hotel reception. The scenic drive to Chichicastenango takes about 2.5 hours, and once there, you will be guided around the biggest market in Guatemala. This giant market is held twice a week and contains all things made in Guatemala, from traditional textiles, carvings, paintings, antiques - you name it.
You will also be able to see the Santo Tomás church, where you will be able to see the effects of the Catholic and Mayan religions blending over the centuries. Your guide will also show you a traditional Mayan ceremonial site, Pascual Abaj, where if lucky you will be able to witness a local shaman performing a ceremony. Please make sure to be culturally sensitive, and always ask your guide before taking photos of Mayan ceremonies.
After walking around this large market and taking everything in, you will head back to Antigua in your private car. Your guide will be happy to suggest a few restaurant options along the way.
