What we need if you decide to take part in this activity: A big smile and a great attitude.
At 7:00 am, our bilingual guide will meet you at the hotel reception and take you in a private car to the Lake Atitlán area. The drive is about two and a half hours, and with stunning views of the lake from higher ground.
Upon your arrival to the lakeside town Panajachel, you will take a boat to San Juan la Laguna, where you will be able to visit art galleries and cooperatives full of traditional paintings and handwoven textiles. This village is especially known for its beautiful oil paintings and the use of traditional natural-dye techniques for their backstrap weavings. After looking around San Juan, your guide will take you on a private boat to the town Santiago Atitlán, where you will be able to go visit the Mayan god Maximón in the home of one of the members of the local cofradía (brotherhood). You may even have the chance to see a Mayan ceremony take place at the house. Your guide will take you to the local and historic Catholic church, and walk through the town.
When you are ready to head back, you boat will take you back to Panajachel, and then your car to Antigua. Your guide can suggest restaurants for lunch at the lake and dinner in Antigua if desired.
